Riverside Retail Park

Client: LxB Stafford
Location: South Walls, Stafford Town Centre

MEP Concepts were appointed as LxB’s Building Services Engineers to develop shell stage services strategy for the new retail development at Stafford.

Key design items such as external lighting, car park ventilation and utility infrastructure requirements were set at pre-planning stage.  During the design and construction phase MEP Concepts worked with the Client to develop the services, liaise with utility providers and coordinate services with the detailed design as it developed.

The first phase of the scheme was handed over spring 2016 for fit out by anchor tenants M&S, Primark, Outfit and JD Sports with second phase handover in mid-2016.

The Stafford Riverside development was designed to exceed the requirement for conservation of fuel and energy set by the Building regulations (ADL2A 2010).   Each retail unit was assessed using BRUKL SBEM methodology.  Each unit’s performance was calculated to show improvement over Building Regulation requirements, utilising improved thermal efficiency in its construction, adoption of efficient lighting solutions and HVAC strategies, and the application of air source heat pump technology at fit out stage.

The unit constructions delivered a high level of thermal performance and achieved APR results of 5m3/hr.m2 @50Pa, significantly improved over the minimum requirement for Part L2A compliance. Primary energy running cost were assessed at design against target minimum energy use and all units achieved actual results that exceeded the target values.
