What do you enjoy most about working for MEP / in this industry?
Every day is different. You can be surveying a hospital wing one day and sizing pipework for a multi-storey residential building the next. The industry is continuing to undergo rapid changes, particularly to required energy targets and the phasing out of fossil fuel use. The recent introduction of the Building Safety Act for high-risk buildings has also added another layer of design compliance.
What has been your most challenging project?
Bizarrely, I’ve found the smaller the project, the more challenging it becomes. Private residential schemes are always challenging, as the home owner/client is always passionate about all details of their building.
What do you do when you’re not working?
In my spare time I’ll be out running a few times a week, or at the gym. I enjoy the occasional skiing holiday when funds allow. I also do quite a bit of home baking and growing fruit and vegetables in our polytunnel.
