Gemma Pope

Gemma has been working with Revit and CAD (Computer Aided Design) since 2014.  Developing and expanding her skill sets to become a Senior Revit Technician.  Nothing says puzzles more than trying to co-ordinate complex heating, cooling and hot water pipework, large sprawling ductwork routes, solar panels arrays, alongside power cable trays, light fittings, power conduits and telecommunication trunking, in and around the tiny space afforded to services by the project Architectural team.

What I enjoy most about working for MEP?

I enjoy being able to work in a multi-disciplinary team which gives me an insight into how the services interact to create a functional effective building. A part of this is being able to develop M&E Revit models together based on the architectural and structural constraints which often required lateral thinking and detailed coordination. I love the puzzle and the satisfaction of seeing a building complete knowing all the effort and hard work put in was worth it.

What has been your most challenging project?

I worked on a high-end sports brand HQ which included large office spaces, customer experiences areas and sports courts. There were very restrictive ceiling voids and risers where large-scale services distribution had to be routed across the building. The coordination along with fluid design inputs meant that keeping track of changes and making sure the model was fully coordinated with the wider design team was an ever-moving challenge.

What do I do in my spare time?

I have two young children, so I am kept on my toes when I’m not working. I enjoy baking, growing vegetables in our veg patch and going to a yoga class to find some zen after a busy week. Lego is a big deal in our household, so I occasionally find a set that I like to build. I love to get out for a family walk at the weekend to blow the cobwebs away, and the promise of a decent coffee at the end of it makes it all the better.

I’m passionate about ensuring the quality of our work and documents issued externally meets the high standard that our clients and we expect

Tell us one thing no one knows about you?

I enjoy sewing and interior design. Many years ago, I used to make and sell handmade cushions/soft furnishings. I had a nautical range and was contacted by a window dresser for a famous fashion designer who wanted to use one of my cushions as part of a window display in Paris.
