Raymond Mokolo
Graduate Electrical Engineer
Raymond is our Graduate Electrical Engineer, supporting the overall electrical design team to deliver lighting and small power designs across all our projects. As a new addition to the team, he is already showing great potential through his contribution and participation.
Raymond’s role involves producing and reviewing electrical drawings, carrying out lighting and electrical calculations, and assisting with the design of lighting, small power, containment, distribution and renewable energy systems.
Raymond uses software including AutoCAD, Revit, ElectricalOM and Relux, while working closely with the wider electrical and mechanical teams to develop practical and coordinated design solutions.
“As a graduate engineer, I am continuing to build my technical knowledge and understanding of industry standards through involvement in live projects.”
What I enjoy most about working for MEP?
What I enjoy most is seeing how an initial design develops into something that can actually be constructed and used. Building services engineering involves a lot more than producing drawings – you have to think about safety, energy efficiency, coordination with other disciplines and how the building will ultimately operate.
At MEP, I also enjoy being able to work on different types of projects and learn from experienced engineers within the team. Every project brings something different, which means I am constantly developing my technical knowledge and learning new ways of approaching design problems.
What has been your most challenging project?
One of my most challenging projects was my MSc research project, where I used EEG data to investigate Parkinson’s disease. It combined engineering and artificial intelligence with medical research, and involved working with patients and healthcare professionals. Having to understand both the technical and human side of the project pushed me outside my usual engineering background. It taught me a lot about problem-solving, communication and adapting to unfamiliar challenges.
What do I do in my spare time?
Outside of work, I enjoy playing tennis and keeping active. I also have a strong interest in fashion, technology and entrepreneurship, and spend some of my spare time working on creative and digital projects.
Tell us one thing no one knows about you?
One thing people at work might not know about me is that I have a strong interest in fashion and the circular economy. Outside of engineering, I have been developing ideas around how technology can help give clothing a second life and make buying and selling pre-owned fashion easier.
